Hello my friends
I've not been on in a while, for no other reason than life got busy. That said, I've enjoyed many conversations with folks on these boards and learned from the veterans as well as the beginners.
I hope some that remember me are still around and I'd lile to say hello to newcomers as well.
Anyway, what prompted me to log on was a 'we miss you' email generated by the forums as well as a delivery for a long forgotten item. Last April, I found and commissioned a razor box, based on several photos of vintage boxes that I'd seen (and also based on losing the auctions for these on various auction sites....). Anyhow, I ended up commissioning it with a wood box artisan, Glen Nief who runs a business called TreeToBox.com out of Loudon, TN. After some back and forth, we settled on a design. Glen placed a link to the full spec that we'd argreed upon on his page, which you can see here.
$$Value$$The John Menoche Razor Box
It took a LONG time, since he's a busy guy. But, the box had been delivered when I returned home today and I'm very happy with it. Like I said, it's a combination of several of the features I liked in pictures of boxes that I'd seen. I've taken some pictures which you can see in a web gallery here.
.Mac Web Gallery
It was supposed to be made from Cherry, but due to an error it was made in Oak, and pickled with the light green stain that I requested. The interior is red velvet both in the main bay and in the undershelf. It can hold 64 razors up top, and I can hold items like collectible boxes, underneath. Glen burned my avatar (from these forums) on the front of the box. It is a set of two razors, arranged in a 'square & compasses' pattern since I'm a Freemason.
Anyhow, I hope you like the box and maybe get inspired to commission or craft one yourself. Let me know what you think.
Take care,
John

Welcome back John from a new member & fellow Mac user.
That is one beautiful piece of furniture. I can see my RAD is pushing me to need something like
that sooner rather than later.
Great design. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

RAD is sometimes touch to keep in check....
X, good to see you're still around. Yes, I'm a proud Mac user. Funny thing is, most of my friends and family think 'John know's computers' so I end up having to fix their damn Windows boxes for them. I haven't owned a PC for years, but that doesn't stop them. I spend hours clearing all their viruses, spyware and slowed down machines up. I always recommend Macs to eliminate or alleviate the problems, but the 'there's no software for them' (100% wrong) and they're too expensive arguments always come up. (if only people looked at value instead of first costs.... kills me).

Hey John the box looks great! I've long wanted one of those.
Anyway, where in RI are you? I've seen your name on the SRP map but then never saw you online as of late. We should get together and look at razors some day soon!

Hi! I'm also a Mac...
Great box, by the way... does it run on MacOSX? Your RAD can be found with Finder? Can you keep apples in it? Oh... for storing razors, I see... Funny thing with Mac users: we tend to choose whatever is the best we can use for a certain purpose... working, shaving... No ofense to fellow members with windows or linux. Our motto here is, indeed, "whatever is best for you... have fun!". Just being provocative!
Welcome back! Sure hope you get addicted to this as many of us have become...
