Default Edwin Jagger brush, how do they compare to others?

I am looking to buy a brush now and a swedish site sell brushes from edwin jagger. Are these any good or should I go with some other brand? They cost about 50 bucks or so in the shop.

I have an EJ silvertip XL and love it. I think that the bristles are more stiffer than those of a Vulfix or Kent, but less than those of a Rooney. My wife has an EJ Chatsworth and loves it too.

In my opinion, you can go for it, they are very good brushes. But if you want another brand, Vulfix, Kent, Rooney, Simpsons, Shavemac are also good brands... the brush, like the straight, is mostly a matter of personal choice.

EJ make really nicely finished products. You pay a little for that finish but it's worth it if you like it.

With brushes, you pay for three things.

    The quality of the handle.

The quality of the material (brush) that is put in the handle.

The size of the overall brush.

So a big brush with a turned horn handle filled and heavily packed with the best quality badger fur will be expensive.

Very glad to hear that you liked it... but, beware of the BAD - brush aquisition disorder.

@jwoods I also have a Kent, but the BK4, and I love it too. I think that the Kent is a little less densely packed, but its bristles are a little softer, like a caress; and I love the handle - and won't say a word about the gorgeous red package it comes in... a wonderful brush!

@dward Thank you for the kind comment on the picture... I laughed so much when I saw it the first time that I had to put it in my signature so other can enjoy and have a good laugh too.

I suffered from BAD for a couple of years.

I'm pleased to say I'm over it now.

Having tried many brushes of different size, shape, price and quality. Different badger hair grades etc.etc

Let me tell you, the Kent BK4 is a wonderful shaving brush and really great value for money. If you think it's expensive, the Kent BK2 has to be the best value quality shaving brush available today. It's the same size as the BK4 but with a slightly courser grade of badger hair. Different to the BK4 but also a great brush in its own right.

Of course there are many great brushes out there. But for me the Kent BK4 is the benchmark for quality at a fair price.
