    Default Gp or Moss Scuttle

If I wish to create my lather directly in my scuttle, should i go with the GP scuttle, the small moss, or the large moss scuttle. I have a vulfix 2234 brush with a 22 mm knot and a 50 mm brush loft.

Currently i use a very large mug, 4.5 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep and this is way to big. I want a scuttle to keep the lather nice and warm and to free up sink room.

Also can boiling water be poured into the scuttle, my tap water is not that hot...or perhaps would water just under boiling temp be best.

    Thanks alot for any opinions...

I can't answer your first question, because I lather on my face, but as to the second, yes, you can fill the scuttle with boiling water.

I had the very same question a few months ago, and the consensus was that either the GP scuttle or the large moss scuttle would work - given the choice, I took the GP scuttle because the bowl was a little large, ribbed, and the handle lowered to better palm while making lather.

Here's the link to the thread: http://straightrazorpalace.com/brush...6-scuttle.html

My understanding is that the large moss does work well, but it is not really ideal for making lather in it.

I've used the scuttle both with hot tap water, and with slightly less than boiling water, and noticed that if you warm the scuttle first under a stream of hot water for 30 seconds or so, and then refill, there isn't an appreciable difference in the temperature of the lather in subsequent passes.

    Hope that helps, FWIW.

I have a small Moss and like it very much. For a brush the size you describe the small Moss is ideal to keep your brush/lather warm, It is not suitable for lathering. I can't speak for the large Moss or the GP as my experience is limited to the fore mentioned small Moss. I don't know about the boiling water either. I have only used hot tap water. I have read that boiling water may be too hot and tends to dry out the lather.

I currently use a GP scuttle with a Shavemac that has a 26mm knot and 60mm loft. The GP is what I would consider the perfect size IMHO...large enough to let you whip the lather around without flowing over the sides but still able to keep the lather and brush warm when it's resting during shaving.

GP lists the inner dimensions as 4.75 wide x 2.5 deep. However, those dimensions are at very top. In fact, the bowl has a steep taper that allows the lower portion of the scuttle to get close to the brush while still leaving a nice wide area to whip the lather at the top.

If you couldn't tell already, I'm a huge fan of the GP scuttles

My GP comes Mon! I went with it for the same reason: big enough to lather in (and the ridges should help too), but tapered @ the bottom so the brush stays in contact w/ the ceramic.
