I shake mine, and then brush it on one of my bathroom towels to dry it even further. Works great.

That and shampoo (I even use conditioner every once in a while for fun) to remove the buildup of soap on the bristles.

Truer words were never spoken. Young or old, rich or poor, never put it away before giving it a thorough shake first.

I have heard "gossip" in other forums about the need to sterilize your brush every now and then against mold, etc. Some advocate using borax and other such agents. Is this really necessary? I've been using a Vulfix badger for a while now and have had no problems, odor or otherwise.

I don't think the intention is really to sterilize the brush using borax, etc. I think its just meant to remove build-up.

Emsplace.com has some good info here:

How to Clean a Shaving Brush using Vinegar and Borax, Bristle Cleaning

Be careful with the vinegar though. Don't use too much or leave them in too long.

But if you shake it more than twice......

If you keep doing that, you will be able to use the hair on your palms as a shave brush.

Well the other day I used the girlfriends' "nice" shampoo on my badger brush and BOOM - it whipped up the most thick and luxurious lather I've seen! I was beginning to think that the brush was underperforming (or something was wrong with my lathering skills, which are usually up to snuff), but the shampoo really did the trick. Thanks guys, I will be adding this step into my regular maintenance routine.
