    Default Upgrade to Silver Tip

    RichZ
There is a big difference between the regular badger and the silver tip. The silver tip is the ultimate in luxury. I recently upgraded and am not sorry. However the silver tip is so soft that if you have a heavy beard it may not be stiff enough to raise the whiskers enough to suit you.

Mostly I found the difference in fullness and a bit softer.

Yea but the thread is so old all the brushes have since shriveled up and fallen apart.

    Cool

I used to use a boars hair. It felt fine while it was all I had. Then I bought a Parker 100% Badger after coming here and learning what I have been missing. I love the Bagder and have not returned to the boars hair. I will be looking for a silvertip next.

Good array of Rooney brushes are available. I really enjoy my 1/1 silvertip (small). Price is around $65. Sold by advertisers on this site.

Nothing wrong with the BK8. I've got Plissons, Simpsons, Rooneys, etc. If I had to save one from a housefire, I'd reach for the Kent.

I have a Vulfix SuperBadger and a GoldenNib Grade A Silver Tip (Also made by Vulfix, who acquired you know who) The VSB gets the job done well with cream and soaps. The SilverTip works better with soaps. Basically, its a little softer and a lot thicker than the VSB. Because of this, it requires a lot of cream to get it working and much more than what is needed to get a BBS shave done. So, I just use it for Soaps and my VSB for creams.

I think China is the predominant producer of badger hair and that is one reason why badger brushes and silvertips have come down in price.

Lots of choices and price points. More fun for everyone!
