+1 on Utopian's comment. And translated to shaving, which one of the badgers is better for brushes according to your DNA research? ;-)

Rich,
Could you ask this gentleman to supply some pictures of this badger farm? I am afraid that's the only way to deal with the scepticism of many here. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

asian badgers are not likely the source of the hair, if u look at images of native asian badgers they have almost 98% black hair with only flecks of silver or they are brown, so contrary to popular belief, i think that badgers are being farmed (keept inside in cages) using european herritage.

Home in Norway (at least parts of Norway) Badger is considered a vermin and you get money if you can prove you killed one. You guys might want to collaborate with a hunter and shave off enough for an entire brush-collection.

Here is what DOVO Stahlwaren replied to one of their customers asking for badger hair origin clarification:
"Dear Sir,
All the badger hair used in our shaving brushes is sourced from suppliers in Germany; we were thus able to ask our suppliers for more information and would like to respond as follows:
- the badger hair used by our suppliers comes from Asia
- since badgers in Europe (for example in the Pyrenees) are not available in sufficient numbers to provide the required amounts of badger hair, our suppliers believe that the monopoly for badger hair supply is now in China
- European and Eurasian badger species are common in Asia; "European badger" is an animal species designation, unrelated to its geographical origin"
Translation by Cornelius, original text below
Sehr geehrter Herr,
DOVO STAHLWAREN

Now what cornelius said makes sence, as i doubted that the asiatic speacies of badger could be the source of hair.
