Thread: Has any body tried "high-end" oral care?

I love the swissco badger tooth brush...i actually use soap...tooth soap to brush my teeth.

Tell you one thing, though, I'm not bringing anything near my gums that needs strapping or honing.

I picked one up from them but its not a Swissco its a Rooney with white bone handles. As I recall it is billed as natural bristle which means boar to me. Its interesting but pretty stiff.

when i was growing up my mother was picking boar bristle brushes for us. now that i decide what to do i use the electrical stuff - sonicare and oral-b.
it may all be marketing, but it seems to made sense that the electric toothbrushes work better, mostly because for several reasons people are more likely to brush for the full time that is recommended by dentists. i think they are better for me, as i probably brush for much shorter period w/o the built-in timer.
i'm curious about the fancy toothpaste though - what are the ingredients?

And how does Marvis compare to the big name American toothpastes?

And how does the Aquatic Mint flavor taste?

I saw that stuff on CS a few weeks ago and have been wondering ever since.

The marvis tastes great! Its smooth, non bitter and has a great neutral after taste!

I have the Kent "medium" brush and like it a lot. I'll probably have to replace it timewise based on the dentist recommendation long before it wears out. I am currently using the Marvis Jasmin Mint and Ginger Mint and like them a lot. I am also using the Elgydium whitening paste and it is very good.

Another option is Vicco Vajradanti tooth powder. (Apparently they also make a toothpaste, but I've only tried the powder.) All natural herbal ingredients. I use it sometimes and always think it makes my teeth look cleaner and my gums feel a lot better than conventional toothpaste. The BW uses it regularly and thinks it's helped a lot. And my daughter, who always used to need at least one filling at almost every dental checkup, has had no cavities (knock on wood--ow, now my head hurts) since she started using Monkey Brand black tooth powder. I sound like such a shill I'd better make the disclaimer, no affiliation with these products or anyone who sells them. They are just really good, in our experience.

So how do they harvest the bristles for that brush? I hope they have found a way to clip the fur of the badger so the animal isn't slaughtered for a tooth brush. If the are "shearing" badgers, I hope they do it in the late spring so the badger isn't too cold in the winter months. Personally I have decided to shave with the fur of a badger but I refuse to be part of the wholesale slaughter of these adorable little furballs so I have begun speading my lather with a badger I have adopted from a badger rescue organization. His name is Beaumont. I had to get an extra large scuttle but as the Badger Rescue Fund (BRF) slogan teaches us, "Nothing works up a lather like the use of a live badger." So for me it's hardly a stretch to use the same badger for shaving and brushing my teeth. Although it would be nice to rescue another animal I have to be realistic. I am unemployed and those people down at Agway aren't just giving away the Badger Chow. It would be a ridiculous extravagance to have a separate badger dedicated to dental care.
