what is it?
I picked up a travel brush and am curious about it. The bottom says N. Y. C. USA with a large German swastika in the center. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Interesting! But I have no idea. Maybe it was made in NYC (stating the obvious there) and given as chotchkies by Nazis, the way companies or organizations give mugs, mouse pads, etc.?

I can not tell you about the brush, I am afraid What I can say is that the swastika was only adopted by the Nazi party in the early 1930s. If the brush is older than that & it looks as if it is, it may have some connection with the symbol's original meaning of solar masculinity. It comes from India & was ripped off by the Nasties because (I think) Hitler wanted to imbue his party with the mystical qualities that the swastika represents.

Thanked: 19True, but the original swastika had the arms facing left. Hitler turned them right. And since these are facing right, i think its pretty safe to say that this brush has some connection with the Nazi party. If you go into the search bar, and search for "Nazi" you fill find a lot of things popping up about Nazi shave instruments. Especially razors with swastikas on the scales and things of that nature.

Thanked: 278On a similar note, has anyone noticed SWASTIKA STRAIGHT RAZOR HONE BARBER SHAVING - eBay (item 370164996086 end time Mar-03-09 15:30:50 PST)
VINTAGE SWASTIKA straight razor hone. SWASTIKA is well respected in striaght razor circles. This hone is made of an artificial abrasive that compares to Hard Arkansas type stone. the stone is 5-1/8" x 2" x 1/2" This one has inscription on upper part of the stone "Swastika". The other side is plain.
Are they related to Swatys? Maybe they renamed after you-know-who hijacked the emblem?
Or maybe the seller just has the two words mixed up.

Not that I wish to burst any bubbles but the swastika has been used in both clockwise & anticlockwise forms. The Nasties used the clockwise because it was reputed to be more potent for the purpose for which they wanted it. It is a bind rune, composed of two separate runes, scribed together for combining their mystical attributes
