Badger is way to floppy for me. I have used the same Omega boar brush for 25 years. The hairs are a bit short but it still is a great travelling brush.

I bought a new Omega briar wood boar brush that has been shedding almost a hair a day for 3 months. The shedding seems to have slowed down the last 1-2 weeks. As far as I am concerned the jury is still out whether it can be classed as a good or a bad brush. I wrote a mail to Omega telling them about the problem and they are gonna send me a synthetic brush as a sweetener. They say they can't get hold of the same good quality boar hair as 25 years ago.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've used three or so Omega brushes in the last year, and none of them exhibited the shedding problem; I'm guessing it's just one of those bad brushes--every maker lets one or two of those out sometimes. But let me just say, I'm darned impressed that Omega took the time to answer your problem like that...They've not been the most forthcoming in my communications with them, and it's good to see when there's a problem they take it seriously. I'm glad they're helping you out.

I love my Omega Boar brush. I got mine from Shave Shop There bath soaps are awesome but Ugly Mug shaving soap is not worth it IMO.

I have found that you need to make sure the water is as hot as possible when mixing the lather because the hairs dont hold heat that long. But i enjoy it most for the firm "massage" it gives my face every time. And its not too bad at whipping up a nice Mama Bear lather. Next in the bowl will be Mitchell's Wool Fat.

The only Con i can say is that although mine doesn't shed fast, it does shed a hair or two every month, and it hasn't stopped for over 1 and a half years. But i think i may mash into the soap too hard anyways.

Come to think about it, my Van Der Hagen also shed a lot of bristles. Annoying as it was, it has stopped "shedding" and works out wonderfully for me now.

My Vulfix did the same, shedding a few dozen seemingly all at once. Now, it's a rarity for it to shed.

I made a similar post in another thread. I have been wet shaving for about 8 months, two of which is with a straight. My first brush, before even using a DE, was a 4$ CVS boar brush I found in the store. It has been sitting on my shelf ever since. I thought that badger was just "Better" because everyone said so. I then spent 200$ on two badger brushes, a lot of money.

Last night I tested my boar that has been sitting on the counter top in my bathroom for 8 months and the results were fantastic. It needs to be broken in, as the bristles are too stiff right now, but the lathering abilities were great on my face. The boar also held more water, imo, and agitated my puck of Tabac better than my Badgers. I think also with my thick beard, the boar will help me get a closer shave.

I wish I knew about how good the boar was before I spent 200$ on badger floppy brushes.

I agree. My Vulfix was about $8.
