    Soak in Barbicide.

    Or replace the knot.

    Borax maybe.

    I don't know how the manufacturers do it but I would guess high pressure steam.

    I've seen people who said their knots were ruined by barbicide...so you might want to be careful on that one.

    I was thinking of the post title. Sterilize.

    I personally would not use a vintage brush. I would drill it out and replace the knot or soak in a weak solution of barbicide if my goal was to sterilize.
