Thanked: 0Where can I get a good brush?
Hello hello,
I just spent 300 bucks on a starter kit from classicshaving.com. Dovo razor, strop, paddle strop and diamond paste. I'd love to have a brush and bowl but I've limited cash and zero idea where to go. I live in Fort Collins CO. We have the usual stores, Bed bath beyond, macy's etc. Can I get a good brush in any of the cahin stores?
Take care
Gavin

My recommendation would be the online stores like Classic Shaving or SRD for the best selection. There are several others people will chime in with I'm sure.

If you have a Crabtree and Evelyn, they sell rebranded Edwin Jagger brushes--the C&E Best Badger Brush is a very, very popular brush at $35, less if you happen on a sale.

Classic Shaving http://www.classicshaving.com/catalog/item/800550/422188.htm carries a few different brands. $59.99 plus shipping will get you a Vulfix #2234 Super Badger Brush. I own one and I have had it for over five years now and it doesn't shed! It is a really great brush, IMHO.
Most big box stores, chain stores and grocery stores handle brushes that are pretty still. I believe they are boar brushes.
Everyone has their own preferences and everyone will give you a different answer. My Vulfix holds a good water load and builds great lather for me. It is a little soft (floppy) for some guys. But it feels great on my face. I have used a shaving brush for probably 35 years. This one is by far, THE BEST I have ever owned!

Thanked: 143Vintage Blades Vintage*Blades*LLC*::... has a large selection of brushes in all price ranges. They are great to do business with, They have a Rooney Special for $40 that is only available at Vintage Blades.
You bought your starter kit from Classic Shaving so you must have seen that they also have a large selection of brushes.Last edited by TexasBob; 03-28-2009 at 03:14 PM.

You could also buy a vintage brush off ebay or from an antique store. Clean it up and put a new silvertip knot in it. I did it for about $30. I would have paid a lot more for a new brush. You will also have a deeper appreciation for your own efforts of restoring it. There are tutorials online here and other places to guide you if you decide to got that way.

I know this is a tad late to chime in but I lived in FtC for several years. I just recently moved a little south from there.
If you are on a budget checkout Whole Foods off of College and Drake. I got my first brush from them. Vegan style and no animal hair in site. They also carry Vegan soap, I think it's called Cowboy. Hit up the cosmetic isle and talk to the person hanging around in there and they can point you in the right direction. They also sell the mugs but seldom have any in stock. As for the soap I didn't like how it lathers but that is just me.
