    Default Boar

I've never had a problem with boar. I still use a boar brush every now and then (my badger brush has a much bigger knot, so I like the look of it more) and I like it just fine.

I find what works best for me is to drench the brush, then shake it out very well. Swirl it over the soap about 8 or 9 times, then start lathering in the bowl. I wait until it starts to create a small amount of very thick lather and then add a few drops of water. I normally add a couple drops of water about three times before the lather is moist enough to actually use.

The process for cream may be different, I've never really tried a cream. Though I still might suggest trying the ''very little water in the brush'' approach and seeing how it comes out. Despite what people say about boar not holding as much water as badger, I find that my boar brush holds a ton just in a different way. I know scientifically it sounds like it makes no sense, but boar seems less absorbant and more just... there's water on the bristles.

    I'm typically a 1 {brush,razor,strop} kind of guy, but I'm
intrigued about trying a boar brush, and for $12 for a
nice Omega it's hard to go wrong. I suppose I can always
toss it if it's not up to snuff, and sell my T2 if it works!

These silly forums cause me so much extra work...

Dropped it in boiling water and it mixed a stupidly full lather from my new bar of TGQ soap.

Looks like you're no longer a virgin.

I bought a boar brush for my brother some time ago. It smelled bad... I shampooed it a bit, rinsed it in hot water and did the shampoo thing again. The smell just went away after the second shampoo treatment.

I've never had moth balls before though. That was weird. I don't actually mind that wet dog smell my EJ had, reminds me of wet wool.

Tolja so. Oddly enough, you'll likely never have to repeat the process, though on my cheaper badger I did it about 5 times.

*sigh* Well, I guess if it worked for you, fair enough. I've never had any trouble with the 3 Omegas I've used.

I hope it continues to work out!

I have both a silver tip badger and an Old Original boars hair brush. I have gotten to where I don't even use the badger any more. The boar brush seems to hold the right amount of water for me and picks up the soap very well.

I hear there's a bit of a break in period. What can I expect? I'm about seven lathers in, they're not very good lathers and the cream lather especially sux.

I Don't know if you're still having trouble with your cream lathers after the tort...BOIL, but this thread on SMF might help...
Using a boar brush with creams.

I personally never had problems, but like I said I face lather and it's a different ballgame...

How's it going, by the way? Getting better? Frustrating? Good, bad?
