    I would use Mahoney oil, its safe enough to drink if you wanted. Produces a great finish.

    Wood turners love it for salad and food bowls because it is safe and can take repeated washing.

    Yup ditto here, if you can use it safely on cutting boards (safe with food) it would be ok for face scrapping

    Unfortunately wood when used with water over time deteriorates. With a boat you can scrape and reapply varnish I'm not sure that's a solution with a bowl for shaving. In the end the wood will deteriorate. Probably ceramic or metal is more ideal.Othwise just keep reapplying wax, its high maint.

    I would suggest some Royal Purple 5W-20. If is good enough for my baby its good enough for me. Just kidding. I would think that the beeswax and min oil would be a really good choice and seems like it would last for a while.
