Default Argh! Which Shavemac do I want!?

I was pretty sure I wanted the Silvertip, but the finest is a bit stiffer. And...its a little cheaper.

I've only had my one brush, EJ BBB. I only use soaps too. Is the silvertip the best option for me, or should I get the finest and save $20? Sounds like the finest might be better for soaps too. Too many options.

I'd go with the finest over silvertip...

Or you could get a Saville Row form QED. Also a 'finest' calibre badger hair.

I currently have a Shavemac Pure and wouldn't get either the silvertip or the finest again. But I do love my Kent BK8 so I can't say silvertip isn't bad....it's just that the shavemac silvertip can lock away your lather and getting it out of the brush can be frustrating for the first while. I like the easier use and 'flow through' of either a taller knot or a thicker hair like the pure/or a boar.

Good luck choosing though. I am sure what ever you get will do the job.

i have both finest and silvertip brushes from shavemac and i love them all but i like the 3 with silvertip more that than the finest. i nearly always use soap, TGQ, Floris, T&H, Trumper, QED with the occasional foray into creams from the same brands... soap just works better for me. and all the shavemacs work well with either! YMMV!

+1 on the 177 Silvertp. Great price on it right now, and Jim's the best.

Ray that is a great price , I was going to get the Shavemac Finest badger but only in the imitation Ivory for that same price . Now Im thinking of just going for that one and not worring that the handle is not the color I wanted.

That is a really good price. I'm normally very loyal to vendors that treat me well, but... :gah:

Luckily! I found some used brushes! Haha! No more thinking for me. Thorough scouring of the BST on the other place yielded me a BK4 for $50 and a Shavemac silver tip for $65.

I have been looking at these brushes for a while now and also am wondering if I need a Silvertip since I am only going to use it for soaps. I only have a few days left if I decide to buy from SRD since the sale is only for April. I really like the imitation ivory handle.

Welcome to what used to be my dilemna! I had almost decided to buy both and sell the one I didn't like and take the small loss.

One other option is Penworks. He's out in Cave Creek, and a trip out to his shop is a nice sunday trip. Nice little storefront, and when I went out there he gave me a tour of his workshop. Nice guy too.
He has his own brands, his own custom wood brushes, and he also stocks Omega, Vulfix and Simpson.
I believe he has member discounts too.
No Shavemacs, but you can handle the brushes in person and see if there's one that you like.

I Have the 177 series of the shavemac and I love it. I use it every day and it works great. I highly recommend it.
