Thread: Hot Water

Howdy all...

New guy here. I bought a badger brush and soap from classic shaving a month or so ago... loving it... but seems like the water gets cold pretty quick. Any tips for keeping the water/suds warm? Anyone use one of those coffee mug warmers?

I have a coffee heater that I use when traveling. It is ok but takes a long time to heat up the water. I also have one of those electric hot pots that I boil my water in. I have tried putting my cup in it to keep the lather hot. It works find, but sometimes dries out the lather too quick for my taste. I have found that water out of the sink is never hot enough. You need to spend $10 and get a hot pot then everything stays warm for the entire shave. If you go back to the Yahoo site you might find some discussion on the hot pot and some suggestions on how to keep the later warm.

I use a "Hot Shot". It plugs into the wall and then you put it into your water filled mug. It heats the water to boiling in a couple of minutes. You then un plug and remove the Hot Shot. The water stys hot during the entire shave.

i like the hot pot. $10. found a latte cup that i float the latte cup on top of the water after i have applied lather to the face. i dont heat the water to a full boil, but only to the point it might begin to boil. trust me, you make a pass and then go get the lather for the second pass, it is plenty hot enough

I picked up my electric kettle at Wal-Mart for $10. It's plastic but works great.

just ordered this one for 50.00 from amazon. It holds 3.7 quarts and boils water quick - I figured it would be good to throw some towels in there and steam my face that way - and use the water for a good hot lather

I picked up a hot pot from wally world last night - used the water from there in my mug - then put the mug in the hot pot while shaving. Seemed to work great! This was my third straight razor shave - so I'm still learning - but it the hot water definitely made a big difference. So the problem I ran into was when I was finished and was cleaning up... my soap was gone! It wasn't a brand new cake of soap - I started using it a while before I tried the straight razor - but there was plenty left. I guess I can't leave the mug in the hot pot while I'm shaving.

I guess the difference was my mug wasn't floating - it was sitting on the heating element? What's a latte cup?
