I have not dealt directly with Berndt, but I have heard nothing but good things about him and his products. Recently bought a 30mm Shavemac silvertip and I am really glad that I had the double size dirtybird scuttle as that thing is absolutely HUGE, densely packed, holds the heat, outrageous amounts of lathering luxury!

no worries if getting a Shavemac custom, mine is top quality he uses same hair and handles for both his customs and stock brushes so same quality for both, although for customs you have more choices of combos obviously, except for some custom brush orders sometimes he has special extra dense hair available as an additonal option but that and or engraving would be the only non stock brush difference

Alright everyone, i was pleasantly surprised when my parents told me they would buy me a new brush for my birthday. So now i have officially decided on a shavemac brush, reading the numerous positive reviews at b&b it was an easy decision.
Im basically torn between 2 different brushs..both silvertip of course. The first is 22580 Tortoise Imitation. And the SB1-102 Horn Imitation with a custom 23mm knot.
Im just not sure what sizes i should be looking at...23mm seems to be the middle of the road that alot of people choose. But honestly...im not even sure what "loft length" is...just the length of the actual hairs?
Anyways, any feedback on these brushes would be greatly appreciated, especially if any of you experts happen to own one. Thanks for all the input so far.

It all depends on what you like in a brush. If you like big, floppy, mops of a brush, get one with longer loft (55-65mm loft), if you like denser, firmer bristles, get the same brush, but request a shorter loft (45-50mm).
Here's a comparrison of two brushes I made with idential knots, the only difference being how much bristle I left exposed (i.e.- loft) you can easily see that the amount of loft can have adramatic impact on how your brush will behave

Dr Funkenstein, or "G" if may be so presumptuous,
Shavemac - Shavemac Rasierpinsel Rasierpinsel SB1-167 SB1-167
This is the brush I have and ABSOLUTELY love. You get to the 30mm by selecting it in the drop down options on this page.
If I were going to have a custom made, I'd probably go with the 30mm, but have it mounted deeper for a shorter loft. No, I have not measured the loft on mine, but according to the listed specs, loft should be 75mm. It is just a little bit floppy but manageable.Last edited by T-Ram; 07-21-2009 at 04:42 PM.
