It is perfectly fine. You could wash it with your regular shampoo to clean it and even use your favorite conditioner.

Thanked: 13245I bought an vintage Old Spice set and here is how I cleaned up the old brush.... This is just what I used, it is by no means the end all be all of brush cleaning, but it worked...
Mixed up a solution of 20 Mule Team Borax in the sink full of hot water (per the box instructions for sanitizing) Swished soaked swished soaked many many times ....
Jumped in the shower, when I washed my hair I washed the brush, repeated the shampooing, and used cream rinse on my hair and the brush....
I had a nice clean fresh smelling brush....

Thanked: 317One thing to keep in mind with cleaning old brushes, is that you should never soak them in boiling water.
It can be tempting, as soaking in boiling water for a few minutes will kill most anything you'd be worried about, but it will also dissolve the glue in a lot of older brushes, so you should avoid it unless you just bought the old brush for the sake of the handle and intend to put new bristles in it.
