    Default My newest brush!!

I've only been straight shaving for about 2 months now, but I already know im not turning back to the Mach 3 ever again. Anyways, for my birthday this year my parents told me to pick out what i wanted. After reading numerous positive reviews of Shavemacs, I decided to go with the 177 model.

    177

I chose all the same specifications, but asked for the handle in Tortoise Imitation. It came out beautiful looking

    23mm Knot
    56mm Loft
Silvertip grade (decided against the D01, just seemed a bit pricey...and i was ready for something soft after a month of the scratchy tweezerman).

    Right out of the box...

The brush feels great on my face, but I did have a bit of difficulty getting a decent lather using it the first time. I lathered up using Truefitt&Hill cream, and tried some Tabac. Seemed to take a bit longer to get the brush loaded. Is there a bit of a break in period with this, or is it just because this is a larger brush than i have been using? (been using the tweezerman up until today).

Anyways, hope you enjoy the pictures...i really like the tortoise imitation over the ivory handle

Great brush, my first brush was a 177, and I haven't been able to part with it.

    Very nice brush!

Only thing I can think of is if you did not shampoo and condition it before using it it might be reluctant at first to take on soap / cream.

Didnt realize this did anything besides clean the brush. Maybe i will give that a try, i was worried it may hurt something.

I'm actually allergic to something that most badger brushes are treated with so I do it automatically with all new brushes..............but the cleaning and conditioning seem to be an accepted "maintenance" procedure. It is natural hair after all. Being clean and conditioned, or moisturized, imho, can only make it function better.

I also really like that "tortoise" handle! Happy shaving!

Ill do that tonight when im home from work then, well see how it goes.

This brush is so much more fun to use than the tweezerman, despite the longer lathering time. Feels very nice

I loved my tweezerman until I got a good silvertip!

I think you will find that the Shavemac absolutely blows away the tweezerman. Lathering time should be much less once you are used to it and hopefully the "maintenance" will do the trick!

Nice, some people over at B&B said i may need to use more cream/soap than i am used too also...you think that could be the case?

    Hey shory,

I think the folks @ B&B have a point. You see, your brush holds more water than its predecessor and so you have to adjust your soap and water ratios accordingly. If you increase your initial cream snurdlage then that's one way of maintaining the ratios you've been working with - by making more lather.

If you don't want or need any greater lather production then you can either load less water in your brush at the start or take the time to work your cream longer which works more water out of your brush.

Changing your soap/cream to one which holds more water could also be a solution. Hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    =)
