    Default My New Brush Design

So, I'm designing a shaving brush to be printed in stainless steel by http://www.shapeways.com, and I have a few questions. I am planning to put in the uk 23mm knot EDIT: (From The Golden Nib), and was wondering how deep the hole should be. Also, what kind of glue or epoxy is best for installing the knot?

Here's a picture of the work in progress.

Oh, Before I forget...whatever you do do not use polyeurethane glue (gorilla etc) to glue in your knot! These glues expand enough to push your knot out and destroy your project. It's extremely hard to apply the downward pressure you need on the bristles to keep the knot seated. Use an epoxy...good luck

WOW! What a cool site and a great idea. That will make some brush when you get it back.Maybe you'll have to order and receive the knot so you can measure the base(and add 1/4" or so)before you upload the design. Please post pics when you get it done.Or of the process along the way.
Possibly you could contact Golden Nib and get that dimension directly. They're great to work with.I used a marine epoxy designed for boats but maybe that was overkill.

Good Idea. Considering the cost of printing, I better get it right. I have a 500 dollar voucher from a contest I won, and the handle costs about 300 to print, so I only have one shot.

I'd add this too... whatever your hole ends up being like, I would recommend that there be some kind of scratch pattern or scuffing to the bottom and most of the inside of the hole so that there is something for the epoxy to form a mechanical bond to when fixing the knot into the handle.

So, I contacted The people at the golden nib, and they were prompt and extremely helpful. I have decided to go with a 24mm wide by 14mm deep hole. The handle is 6.5cm tall. I'll be placing my orders next week.

Here's a quick render of the brush I whipped up:
