Yeah, it should improve with the brush breaking in. Go ahead and add water if needed to build enough lather for your shave. Once you figure it out, you'll enjoy the boar a lot I'd wager.

I'm also new to boar (well I had one, but it was 1/3 of the size of this one), and I'm having the exact same issue. The brush for the first pass is LOADED with lather, and as I put it aside (brushes down in the space-scuttle) by the time I get around for the second pass, it soaked up all the lather? I think I'll burn through my TABAC a lot faster than usual if this keeps up

It very well could be that you're lather needs more soap and less water. When you have less soap, more water the lather looks nice and full but breaks down in the heat of the scuttle. More product initially with less water will make it resilient and should last throughout the whole shave. Best of luck!

Thanks for the tip! That's what I did my last shave, but it seemed to take a lot of soap compared to what I use on the badger, and that one lasts for 4 passes if need be? But, perhaps it's just because the brush is new, we'll see, lovely feeling for massaging the face though

I nearly gave up on my first boar, an omega, until about the second week of use when it decided to start doing its job properly.

Thanked: 143To repeat what was already said, just for emphasis... Boar brushes need to be broken in.
I gave up on my first boar brush (Omega Pro 49) after a few uses but kept hearing that they needed a break-in period. After a month or so I decided to give it another try -- a few more uses and it was working great.
Now breaking in a Semogue 620. I know my Rooneys (1/1 and 3/1) will still be my favorites but I sometimes like a little more variety.Last edited by TexasBob; 11-18-2009 at 12:06 PM.

I am sure you will really like the 1305. I have three Semogue boars, 1305, 1470 & 620 I took about 10 shaves each (3passes p/shave ) to start breaking in. It is worth the wait. I hear alot of good things about Omega's too.

I like the Semogue and Omega boars as well.
