i myself have a boar brush (so cheap it doesnt have a name,,,it came with my disposable straight razor blades). i've been using it for more than a year and it never sheds.. maybe a brsitle or two since i started using it. i shave 3 times a week and i use it everytime. but, after using it i rinse it very well, dry it as mush as i can with a cloth and then let it sit.

maybe caring for the brush has an effect on the shedding. i never tried badger though

but somehow i like my brush because it massages me at the same time while lathering, i mean you feel the bristles on your skin...does a badger
    do this ?

Some badgers do & some don't. Badger comes in different grades from pure, best, silvertip, super. The silvertip & super are very soft on the skin. However, they can be quite firm in the bristle if they are made densely enough, Simpsons chubbies are dense. I cannot speak about best & pure, they do have a large following though.

    Cheers, fozz

I got both of mine from a stall in the outdoor Turkish market here in Skopje. Here are a couple of pics:

    (click for biggination)

Smaller brush (no. 117/24): 120mm height, 60mm loft, 22mm knot
Larger brush (no. 2002): 145mm height, 70mm loft, 26mm knot

I don't know the sizes for the other models, but you might be able to estimate from the group pic on their webpage.

I have 3 Omegas (31064, 48, and one whose number escapes me). I also have 1 Semogue 1305, which people just rave about.

No shedding problems with the Omegas, and each lathers much better than the Semogue and feels better on the face. The Semogue looks cool.

PM me if you want to save a few bucks and buy my 1305. It's fine, but I don't find it particularly amazing.

Well that's discouraging! I have an Omega Pro 49 which I kinda like. I got a Semogue 620 because I have heard good things about the Semogues but it seems "wiry" compared to the Omega and also (as you say) does not lather as well. I am still hoping it is just a matter of break in. The one thing I don't like about the Pro 49 is its size. I prefer a smaller brush an the 620 is supposed to be the one!

I have to agree. I simply said if shedding is an issue go Semogue since I haven't heard anyone complain about it with them. I too prefer my Omega, it is softer without being floppy like most badger.

The reason I bought the Semogue 1305 was that it was a smaller brush. Some days, I just want something smaller. It does the job in that respect, but I don't know, I just like the Omegas better. If I had started with the Semogue, I might prefer it now to the Omegas. I was just saying that it's like comparing a W&B to a Frederick Reynolds. Both are solid, but everyone's going to end up preferring one to the other, you know? I just happen to prefer the Omegas.

The posts re bristle loss are a real surprise to me, because I am 3 for 3 with the Omegas . . . something I can't say for the Rooney, Savile Row, or Vulfix badgers I've had in the past, which cost 3-5 times as much.

I haven't had any trouble with my Omega, and much to the surprise of, oh, everyone on Earth, I didn't have any problem with bristle loss with my VDH boar either. Over a year and it is still going strong. I love boar brushes. I'm considering one of those Jaguar ones, they sure look good.

Nice brush. I've been thinking about one but I'm worries about the metallic (I'm assuming its paint) flaking off.

I think Jaguar is next on the list here too. The Fitjar Fjellheim soap out to kill any nasty smell pretty quickly and leave it smelling fresh as a pine forest.
