Thread: "Cased Badger" Question.

I have seen quite a few older brushes being called "Cased Badger". What does the term "cased" refer to?

I had a Pure Badger brush which I was using but this particular brush was a bit on the weak side (soft) so I purchased a brush which was labeled "Cased Badger", and I really like the stiffness of this new brush, especially since I am using soap.

I was wondering if Cased Badger refers to the stiffness or is it a combination of Boar and Badger what exactly?

I really don't have a clue however just an educated guess would be some process where the hairs are stiffened up either through some sort of retained on the knot or maybe another hair blend though I doubt that because then it would have to say if there was a blend.

I think you are correct that if it were a mixed hair it would be stated as such. Maybe this brush just has a badger hair that is inherently stiffer than perhaps a premium brush would be composed of, and they are simply meaning "Badger Inserted".

Makes no difference really, I was just curious, you see so many different terms to qualify grades of badger, I thought it might have something to do with that.

I sure enjoy the "scrub" effect it gives on my face and holds the lather well also.

I think I might have to try a good Boar bristle next.
