Another thing to consider is just carving your own handle after drilling a knot hole. It's really fun and you can do some cool stuff.

That looks pretty good. I'm sure most of us could do that job. We just never thought of it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Default What ever happened to the VDH Handle?

A friend just gave me some teak from a boat shop nearby. He said it would hold up great to the water since they use it for decking on their yachts. I'm going to give it a shot today. It was suggested to just use some oil to coat it since varnish and that sort of thing won't hold to the surface of teak all that well.

I'm a tech guy and don't work with woods or drills, but this is too good and easy to pass by. I'll try to take images along the way and see what happens.

Meanwhile, what ever happened to the VDH handle from the original post? Did that work out?

Going back to the original post...

    5. If you ruin it you can spend $7 to replace it with a new VDH brush and bowl.

yea, that happened but I have not replaced it yet.

The plastic was softer than expected and I took a big chunck out of it with the dremel on accident.

Good idea for making a handle.

I had just started setting up my drill press to do the same thing. Only differences I have is that I used a wood screw with machine threads on the other end so I could chuck it into the press and I glued two pieces together to make a square to start with. I thought about gluing up thinner squares but didn't want it to be all end grain.

Rounding it out took some time (I used a wood rasp holding it against the spinning wood - little to no pressure) then used a rat-tail file and a coping saw blade to shape it. The coping saw blade works FAST. Small teeth worked so well I may not try larger teeth.

Anyway, I drilled it with a 7/8 bit to fit the 22mm knot I'm planning on getting - now to decide which knot.

Thanks for sharing this. I may have to steal that magnet idea.
