Thanked: 6Quick question about a cheap brush
About 6 months ago i picked up the VanDer Hagen brush and soap set from Wally world. It was almost six months exactly on Christmas Eve when the boar brush started leaving a half dozen or more hairs in the lather at time. I have been face lathering the majority of the time 6-7 times a week. Additionally, I was lightly squeazing the water out of it, gave it a light twist to check the adhesive holding in the knot and it wasn't holding in the knot any longer. I gave it a squirt of krazy glue to attach it back to the handle and some into the base of the knot to keep the hairs out of my lather.
Now the quick part, have probably been too rough or is the about the life expectancy of these 4ish dollar brushes? thank you

That's just a cheap brush, I have one and it's been shedding since day one. If you're looking for a good inexpensive replacement go grab the Tweezerman badger brush off Amazon, I spent ~ $13 to get it to my house. There was free shipping at that time and may also be over the Holidays.

Thanked: 6I just looked up that tweezerman brush and I thi think I have till tomorrow to get it for 13.50 no shipping.
The vdh brush I had never really shed except one hair every few shaves. I have to add that during the week I didn't really let it dry properly.

The VDH brush is junk . I had one and it shed at least 2-3 hairs every time I used it , and I was taking good care of it . I soon bought a Vulfix 2234 super badger , which has shed 3 hairs in the past 2-1/2 years . My brother uses a Kent boar bristle brush , he says it doesn't shed , and is very happy with it .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

Thanked: 326Sorry to hear it crapped out on you mate. I too have VDH brush. I haven't the chance to use it as I'm still going through several brush rotation.
I have several Omega brushes. I fancy the smaller to mid-size brushes with 18-23mm knots with 40-50 loft thereabouts.
Before I go on these boar brushes have to be broken in.
Quick review of brushes:
Omega #21047 is an awesome latherer! Don't let the size fool you mate! It's nice mix of badger and boar bristles.
#40033 is nice densely packed brush with plastic white base and black ringlet. Fantastic beater all around and not prickly I might add.
#50068 is "cutsey" brush that one could use as travel brush. It too is a great latherer
#31025 ( I have 31064 but all the 310xxx series have same specs ). This is a little bigger at nearly 60 loft with 25 knot. Nice brush tips.
Koh-I-Noor #77J is understated brand but brush to be reckoned with like the 31064 it is soft and provides latherer. Doesn't shed much either.
I know it's pricey due to it's acrylic resin base ( personally like the matte black finish )
