Why is it that pure badger hair brushes are so darn expensive, but you can buy a handle and a knot and glue it together yourself for soooo much less? Am I missing something? Thanks.

Harvest them from old brushes or make them by hand. I don't know anywhere that specifically selles handles by themselves. I know they could be created (either turned, carved, or crafted) by people on this forum. I've personally turned handles and they're a lot of fun. If you want anything in particular I might be able to help out.

I had a Tweezerman that shed like a mofo - I cut out the knot, enlarged the hole, epoxied in a 22mm silvertip from PenWorks - voila, silvertip Tweezerman. Anything even remotely handle-shaped can be used though - I've seen one that used a fancy top from a tequila bottle as a handle. You're really only limited by your imagination.

I don't have the link but guys were buying genuine horn handles out of a vendor in Viet Nam. Some quite nice ones too.

I guess maybe it comes down to who is willing to go through the trouble to make one. Still, I just can't get over the cost factor. It's just amazing.

people are willing to pay that much for a put together one so that sets the price. there are alot of things i could make myself but i pay for the convience of having someone else do it for me.

I didn't know pure badger brushes were that expensive. I've seen them for about $20 or so. You can get a best badger for about $35.
