Van Der Hagen Brushes
I happened to come across the Van Der Hagen website. It contains some of the more inexpensive shaving items. I happened to see that they had a "Natural" brush and a "Deluxe" brush. The boxes both stated "100% Natural Boar Bristle" and the only difference on the packaging was the color of the handle. The descriptions didn't give any clue as to the difference between them, so I emailed them and askedwhat the difference was. The following is the response that I received:
Hi Jim,
The only difference between the two are the color of the handle, one is green and one is white.
Have a great afternoon!
Barbara
Yes Barbara, I will have a great afternoon now that I know that difference. That is a great marketing department in the Van Der Hagen company.

I heard somewhere on the internet that white handles used to be badger. Now they are both boar.

WOW! That is some marketing Dept. But I bet one is more exspensive than the other. I bought their brush, dish, soap kit (I'm only 3 shaves down) and only paid $8 I then later saw the brush by it self for $15 and wondered what the difference was.... I gues now I know. lol

Not too bad
I have a dark blue handled one that came with the shave kit. I actually like it. It has only shed 2-3 hairs when I first got it. It hasn't shed since.

The brush is a good general beginner brush. It lathers well on hard soaps and retains water well. It is a stiff tip and bristle brush which works well with my coarse beard. You can't beat the price and if it breaks, you didn't spend $75 bucks on it so who cares. I'm not sure about the knot size but it seems sturdy and would be what you consider a medium size brush.

Agreed with what Alvarez said but in my expirience it sheds a little every time I use it. The brush was not where I wanted to spend my money while trying to figure out if I like a straight shave.

Van Der Hagen Brushes
Ladies and gentlemen:
Those Van der Hagen brushes, like Pinaud aftershave, are a way of life and no gentleman shaver should be without one.
They are far from the greatest boar brush in the world, but some things are sacred. I've had the one with the green-blue handle for years. Should something happen to it, I will go right out and buy another one.
Regards,
Obie
