    Default Curious Markings On Brush?

    Everyone:

Looking at those numbers, they don't appear handwritten.

More so stamped, I'd say — and how many servicemen carried stamps with their initials and the last digits of their Social Security Number?

    The mystery thickens. Oy!

    Regards,

    Obie

Good point, Obie... Maybe the military had letter and number stamps and you stamped your own? No.. That would take too much time...

Maybe they were ISSUED by the military, stamped for each person? I'm trying to work in the initial/4 of the SS... That code seems logical, so my next bet is on standard issue, and marked to avoid theft, or something like that. "If found return to"?

    Default Curious Marking On Brush?

    My dear ShaveZombie:

    Interesting points all around.

Then again, the brush could be military issue. In that case, in all likelihood, it would carry a specific nomenclature. The military numbers everything. The letter on the brush probably indicates the size — I read the letter as M, which might mean medium size.

Amazing how much time we've spent on the blasted brush mystery. And why, I ask? Because I think we're all suckers for a good mystery. I know I am.

    Stay well.

    Regards,

    Obie

Likewise, good Obie. I cannot avoid a puzzle.

I like that. The M denoting size, and the rest being an issue number. That makes sense.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

My time in the Marine Corps we had stenciles and such in which we put the first letter of your last name and the last 4 of your SSN on personel gear also if it were issue I would think it would have a NSN on it. NSN is a national stock number or a Mil-Spec somethind like Mil-B-#### which would mean Military Brush and a Number so my vote would be last name letter and last 4 of SSN.

    Default Curious Markings On Brush?

    Hello, Slamthunderide:

Thanks for that information. Go Marines!

Of course, your explanation makes sense. I like the reasoning. We're slowly creeping toward solving this mystery. At least I think we are.

Then again, the blasted numbers and letter could be simply the manufacturer's or the store's stock identification. Now, that I find disappointing, because it makes the whole mystery fizzle into a puff.

Ladies and gentlemen, let's keep at it.

    Regards,

    Obie
