    Default Did I get a knock-off?

I recently bought what I thought was an Omega 48 after hearing about the benefits of boar brushes and their low cost. However, I noticed that the delivery had come from china when I received it. Nothing to worry about at that point, brush looked okay and came in official looking packaging. Lately though, I've noticed it hasn't been breaking in like its supposed to (after 10 or so shaves) and looking at pictures online it looks different than other Omega 48's (no stamped color logo, just printed, and shorter brush). The handle is plastic with the chrome look to it.

Did I get a knockoff or is this the real deal?

    Default Did I Get a Knock-off?

    Hello, Patches:

My knowledge of Omega brushes is limited. Since I have never used them, I cannot comment on them. People who have used them seem to like them.

The important question here is this: Where did you buy this brush? Perhaps SRP members acquainted with these brushes will offer some thoughts.

    Regards,

    Obie

I don't see the advantage to making a knockoff of a pretty inexpensive product to begin with so just based on that I would guess no. Of course you never know.

Looks like an Omega to me...

I can't for the life of me imagine who would counterfeit a $20 brush...nothing in it.

Thats what I thought too as far as the not being worth counter-fitting. The problem is it doesn't match up to other 48's and I can't find a matching official Omega brush online anywhere. Not a big loss anyhow, and it works alright enough, just still trying to learn and am wondering if a shoddy brush could be hindering my lathering abilities here. So, mainly I was just curious if anyone could spot it's authenticity right out and if I was missing out on a better shaving experience because of a possible low-quality brush.

The advantage would be that the company forging Omega would have a product to sell, that would sell period because of its name regardless if it were cheap.

I have seen fakes of cheap products before.

That is actually not an Omega 48.

It looks like a #10029 which is dubbed the baby pro.

I would guess it is not counterfeit.

Aha! I was hoping someone would recognize it. So I was mislead into believing it was a 48 when it was a smaller model. I figured this was the case at first but wasn't able to find a matching brush anywhere. Thank you for being able to point that out.

The question now is whether or not to get another brush... the thing is small enough that it makes lathering difficult in the mug I use. I actually have to reach inside the mug to get the brush to reach the bottom, which means the 'whipping' motion is hindered by the sides of the mug. I was disappointed by this at first but figured this must be the standard size for brushes since the 48 is supposed to be a larger brush. Now I know better I guess...
