Not bragging ... or complaining, but one of my earliest wet shaving ADs was shaving brushes. I'm not contradicting anyone either when I say that a Rooney Finest is a scrtichy .... prickly brush. Great backbone and scritchy. The same with the pre vulfix Simpson supers. I don't know about the current stuff but DrP tells me they are really great so I have one on my to get list.
I don't doubt those who find the Rooney finest soft .... another example of the YMMV nature of wet shaving. IME and to my face a Simpson best, Rooney super or heritage or a Shavemac with the higher priced hair are soft to my face. Rooney Heritage brushes might have flow issues as Seth noted. I've had some that did and some that didn't.
I base my opinions on my experience with these brushes here and than some. Some have come since these photos and some have gone. The big plexi Plisson HMW is gone so don't ask.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That's an interesting observation, Jimmy. Neither of my 2 Finest Rooneys were scritchy, but I've heard people mention some inconsistency with their hair grades on occassion... Fwiw, I really love the little 1/1 Pure brush too (I like the scritchy too )

I havent noticed my 1/1 or 1/2 Finest to be scritchy. I really have to say that its just a strong backbone with some soft tips. For the money, I would try to get one of the two band Simpsons as I mentioned above. The Rooney Finest are great, but they are a bit on the expensive side IMHO. I had a Rooney 1/2 Super that I felt was just very soft and floppy compared to the Finest. Dont even get me started on Kent brushes..haha. Ive seen mops with more backbone than a Kent :P
I am really looking at that PL10 myself on SMF. I may pick it up if it doesnt sell eventually.

For some time now there has been a shortage of the hair found in the finest series by Rooney. People were surprised when Simpson came out with a bunch of their supers though as I recall they were 3 band not two.
I have a Rooney med in finest and a Simpson CH 3 in super and don''t find them scratchy at all. Just great brushes with backbone to them not floppy at all.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

My Rooney Finest also has velvety soft tips and the bristle has great backbone. I suppose there may be some variation from time to time. If you like dense, stiff brushes with a soft tip, I can recommend the Rooney Finest.

I am finding this interesting. I've got 6 Rooney Finests in style 1 sizes 1, 2 and 3 and 5 of the old production Simpson Supers. All of them feel prickly, scritchy, or whatever you want to call it, to my face. This is a good thing to me as I look for that.
The feedback of multiple users who describe the Finest as soft tells me that I must have sensitive skin. Perhaps that accounts for the fact that I can't do more than 2 passes with any shaving implement without suffering irritation.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
