    Default Sterilizing Brush

Hello all - in some hazy post-surgery clumsiness, I knocked my lovely brand-new Rooney brush into the toilet, and a trusty old pre-straights Gillette SS . Generally I instantly throw anything out that falls in the toilet, but it kills me to do that here. I feel okay about boiling the gillette and washing it with soaps and alcohol, but what about the brush? Can I boil the brush? Can I use alcohol on it? Will these steps sufficiently re-sterilize it?

    Appreciate the help.

Don't boil the brush. I would just give it a good cleaning with some anti bacterial soap and then let it sit at least a week or so.

I forget where I found it but this i how I ready my ebay finds for use. A good wash and rise with an antibacterial soap then a two minute soak of the bristles in barbicide. Then rinse in water, shake it out and let it sit in a well lit area for a week or so before using. Theres some crazy fungi out there so it's best to be careful. In your case I think you'd be fine with just a good wash and rinse but it's your call.

*edit* Found the thread over on B&B. Gnarly stuff out there

thanks, guys. well, basically I'd like to nuke it with whatever the strongest stuff I can that will not damage the brush....just to feel safe, clean, comfortable rubbing daily on my face...guess I'll get some barbicide. I did a little bleach - didnt seem to hurt it.

Heck, just use the barbacide on it too. Barbicide is a fungicide and a virucide in one. I'm sure you'll be in good shape after that.

Btw - got the barbicide today. Now *that* finally made me feel comfortble again. It says it has a "virucide, fungicide, germicide, and pseudomonocide." Now I didn know what a pseudomono was, or why one would want to kill it, but it sure sounded like a good idea. And the barbicide needs to be diluted 8-1 - of course I couldnt resist making it a *little* more potent than rec'd.....Anyways, back to HappySoftRooneyLand. thanks all.

If there are no metal parts on the brush, I wonder if you could microwave it?

now that's just cruel! we want to kill the germs, not go nagasaki on them. ;] but anyways, you probably could but I've never been keen on the sterilizing capacities of a microwave. and since I was advised, distinctly, by a brush mfgr. NOT to boil it....also dont have a microwave...
