I am curious are they pulling clean of the glue or
are they breaking off. Also what is the handle made
    of?

What if you just use it some more and let "more" come free
    or not from the knot.

A Dremel bur with an inverted cone shape should let
you snip the old knot out without damage to the handle.

Brush makers here will have opinions on if and how to seal
the handle hole from water damage prior to setting the knot.

Interesting Techniques. But, I think I'd rather spend my time rescaling or refinishing a razor. In this case I will just order a new knot and get it over with.
