    Default Edwin Jagger Best Badger

I bought an EJ Best badger brush for around $50, while it seems like a quality brush that produces an excellent lather, I find I don't care for the prickly sensation on my face. Is this expected at this price level and would I have to step up to a $100+ silver tip to get something softer? I'm not prepared to spend that much now but thinking about upgrade options in the future. Its difficult knowing what to expect since there isn't anything local.

When I went to Trumpers and got my brush they had dozens and dozens of brushes there and they varied so widely in the way they felt.

There were what looked like little scrubby brushes that actually felt very fine to the touch, there were the big mop-like brushes that were actually quite stiff and every variation in between.

The brush I actually ended up getting was a slightly finer feeling best badger. Its still reasonably scrubby, without feeling prickly on my face like some of the other best badgers they had did. I also found a couple of silvertips there that were quite prickly feeling.

I guess badger hair is rather like human hair, its all different!

Is there somewhere you could go to try a few out for feel? The other option is to call the seller and tell them the sort of feel you want from the brush and let them pick you one out?

    Good luck!

Best badger is kind of like the loss leader in brushes. Most guys who don't want to spend alot get pure and those who want the best get silvertip so most ignore best. Personally I think best is the best value in badger brushes. Often times its a blend of hairs so it can vary from maker to maker but it usually is on the prickly side but nothing like pure. My first brush was a CM best and as I recall wasn't all that prickly.
