If you can, get a Thäter. I have a feeling they will soon become much sought after...

If your looking for scrubby and stiff check out a Simpson chubby. Also I know kent makes some with short lofts which should be scrubby. Otherwise any Plisson HMW or Rooney Finest or or Simpson Super should yield the same results.

Well, I hope Thäter brushes will be available in the US shortly. They will make you change your mind about the Simpson Chubby. Less expensive, yet better. Their combination of firm knots and soft tips is unsurpassed.

Thater brushes look and sound very interesting. Perhaps one of the vendors on SRP will begin offering them for sale in the U. S. one day.

    Few things:

The Thaters are phenomenal, and I think they'll hit SRD sometime soon (or at least hope so)

The wood working #2 is great for scrub, but have you considered a Boar? Omega and Semogue are actually quite soft tipped after a week of breakin, and the scrub/backbone is niiiiice

Boars are seriously underrated, I love mine just as much as my Stephen's #6

An Omega boar from ShoeBox is a good $10 investment. Scrubby, yet very soft once fully broken-in.

You would also save a bundle by looking at a stiffer badger hair. I have found Best Badger to be a nice compromise between loft, stiffness, and comfort.

In my opinion for what you are looking for in new brush there is nothing better then Rooney Finest.

You might give Rudy Vey a try. He makes custom brushes to any design you'd like. He stocks all types of knots and handle material. His quality is absolutely superb and he is extremely reasonable. I've attached a picture of the one he made for me. It's a copy of a Rooney style 3 type 3 which retails for $390. My duplicate with 26mm finest badger knot cost $63 including shipping.

You may want to give a Rooney 3/1 super a try. Nice scrubby brush with plenty of backbone. Prices are pretty good, especially if you get the T&H branded version from onthefly.com, 25% off this week.
