You can upgrade to a Vulfix or Edwin Jagger pure badger or super badger brush.

Cheap brush
Hello, geruchtemoaker:
Our good friend jhenry offers quality choices for the less expensive brushes. I concur. You can get a good brush for under $30. Pure badger is an excellent choice.
The general category of badger brushes is: pure, best, super and silver tip. Sometimes best and super are jumbled together. Also, sometimes wording of the categories differs among vendors and manufacturers. The categories I mention are general.
So you'll do fine with a good pure badger.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1195+1 for Vulfix. Inexpensive yet great quality. I've no idea why they are less money than some of the other English standbys, but you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test between Vulfix and, say, a Rooney of the same variety. Just my $0.02

Depends what you call cheap. I would go with a best badger. You can probably get a Vulfix for around $40. The pures are cheaper but if you don't like it it's no good to you and they can be a might prickly.

I've seen Vulfix brushes for almost 1/2 that amount (approx. $25.00).
Just my 2 cents.Last edited by jhenry; 05-04-2010 at 10:58 AM.

My first and only brush for now is a badger Tweezerman brush with a boxwood (I think) handle. I ordered it from the US and it was cheap, $20 with shipping included. They're even cheaper now. I sanded the handle smooth and finished it with Tung-oil.
