Different brush types
I was looking today at The Golden Nib website. I was wondering if anyone here has tried the "other" brush types available. I have a cheap boar brush and a TGN silver tip that I love. I just want to try the other styles, but don't want to waste my money either. The others are Pure badger, Black badger, Omega Banded boar, Dark badger, Nylon and White nylon.
Are the black and dark badger the same?
How do they perform differently from the ones I have?

Every brushmaker has his own terms for hair types so you need someone specifically familiar with that line or call them up and ask them. Usually the black or dark is pure and is more prickly. The nylon usually is soft but doesn't hold water very well. Boar can be similar to the pure badger but doesn't hold water as well but will break in and get softer.

Thanked: 190The silvertip you have is a nice brush. I don't think the others mentioned will measure up to the silvertips performance and you may feel bummed out about spending money on them to find this out.
But if you want to have a few brushed hanging around for fun, go for it.

It's all going to depend on your preferences. I have a couple of their silver tips and three "pure". With exception of the one silver tip which I have set deep to give it more backbone, I really like the pure badger brushes. I do however really like a scrubby feeling brush, so depending on your tastes, you may or may not like them. If you like your silver tip, but wish it was a little firmer or scrubbier, then you might like the "pure". If you think you wish your silver tip was a little softer or floppier, you probably wont want the pure.
Also, I can whip up great lather with the pure from soap or cream, and I think it's a great face latherer.
My 2 cents.

Another reason I ask is that my uncle wants me to turn a brush for him to wash his face with. And a friends wife wants me to make one for him he's only used VDH boar, but want to get him something nicer, but similar. Its a surprise so I can't ask preferences.
