Thanked: 0Will crappy soap/foam ruin my brush?
Hi all,
I just got my Thater in the mail today along with a brush stand and a strop. Unfortunately the soap and razor have not gotten here yet. Anyways I need a shave tonight (cousin's graduation in the morning) plus I'm just extremely anxious to try out my brush.
My question is: Will using a generic Barbasol shaving cream or a perhaps better soap like the Dr. Bronner's soap that I asked about here, ruin my brush?
Like I said I have to shave tonight but I wouldn't want to ruin my brush using a crappy foam, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I bought a good badger brush at Hoffritz in '73 and used it for thirty years before buying many others. Most of those years I used Dove face soap to lather with. I've not used that in a few years since discovering the forums and decent soaps and creams but the old brush is still in fine fettle and no harm done. Badger hair is pretty tough stuff.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Relax...Using crappy soap/foam to shave with for a few days before the arrival of your preferred soap won't ruin your brush.

Don't believe these guys if you use crappy soap with a quality brush it will become insulted and never perform good for you again. Especially being a German made brush and if it's from Northern Germany it will really get insulted and hold it against you for an especially long time.
Just a joke. Don't worry about it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Just let it dry upside down (bristles pointing down). Trapping water around the knot and letting it dry there leaves all of the residue and minerals that are in the water -- and those definitely break down the hairs and glue very quickly. Enjoy!
