Shavemac D01 versus Thater
Does anyone know how dense Thater brushes are compared to a comparable Shavemac D01 (say 24 or 25mm knot size or any other for that matter)? I am thinking about getting a 24mm Thater.
As a matter of comparison of density, a 25mm Shavemac D01, which I have and love, has 26 grams of Silvertip compared to 20 grams in a regular 25mm Shavemac.
So, how much Silvertip (weight) does a 24mm or 25mm Thater have?
Any info that can help me make up my mind would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Robert

Thanked: 74Hello,
If you like dense brushes, I am sure the Thater will not disappoint you. I have never used a Shavemac D01, so I can't make a direct comparison for you. I have read that the D01 brushes are ultra dense. I have used a Rooney and a Simpson brush. I would say that the Thater brushes are very dense, but not as dense as some of the more dense Simpson and Rooney brushes. A while back, I took a few pictures of my Thater 4125/0 brush. These might help you.

Hope this helps.

Useful info
Hey Altshaver
Info does help and is very useful...it gives size perspective, a qualitative metric. I would still want to get quantitative info about bristle density before making a decision.
I am somewhat torn...I love my 25mm shavemac, but would hate to have just another one (boring)...but, at the same time, if the density of the Thater is far behind a Shavemac D01, then I would hate to have paid the same price and get less. Both run about ~$215 (+/- $10)
I am in no particular rush...let's see what others have to say.
Thanks for the input and info...very helpful
Cheerios,

By my measure, the 4125/0 has a 50mm loft. I hope this helps.

Hi Rudy,
Although Robin may not be the only site in Germany and certainly Thater has more than one reseller, I am certain that visiting Robin's store will prove good and worthwhile visit. For one thing, he is a very valuable member here and speaking strictly for myself, he has had a lot of input and advice (online and off) that I have received from him over the past several months. Developing camaraderie and friendships, in my opinion, is what SRP is all about, not products. I, for one, would take Robin's offer as an opportunity for extending this rapport beyond what we have online .
But again, that's just me.
have a good visit in Germany...whatever you decide to do, you will sure have a lot of fun. Be safe my friend .
Cheers,
-Robert

Thanked: 1903Ummmm... I think there is a misunderstanding here. The Different Scent is a shop in Berlin, and one well worth visiting (German language link with pictures), but it certainly is not mine. I wouldn't know of any other shop that sells Thäter brushes.
