that was an excellent review. Thank you for taking the time to post your results.
I found the RB scuttle was my warmest one as well.

Thanked: 270Curiosity. I started with the Georgetown G5 and read where some loved it and others hated it. No one spoke ill of the Dirty Bird. What am I missing out on? The Becker (Robert's Ceramic Feats of Clay) scuttles were priced so low and the Schwarzweisskeramik was priced so high. That left the Moss scuttle, and I didn't bid fast enough when the opportunity presented itself to get it at a bargain price.
What are realistic expectations of a scuttle when you can pay less for an electric device to maintain the temperature of your choosing?
I really needed a new hobby I could get excited about and this retro shaving has filled the void. With it I have found something I can be passionate about, which is why I have cut myself a lot of slack in this area. I rotate scuttles like I do straight razors. For DE shaving, I've found that nothing beats the Merkur slant. Every day in front of the lavatory is new and exciting.

My Dirty Bird 1.5 is perfect for me as I lather in its bowl.
Unlike an electric cup warmer, my Dirty Bird scuttle is artwork; a thing of beauty. Made individually to order for me, it adds an intangible experience to my shave den Zen that no electric cup warmer can provide.

Thanked: 227Howdy folks.
I have to ask a question, as I don't own a scuttle, and may be missing information, am I correct in thinking a scuttle is essentially two bowls joined together with a gap between for holding warm water?

yes... that is correct.. the water is used to heat the smaller bowl. .and in turn heat the lather.. not really sure why it's called a scuttle.. but that's another thread all together.

Thanked: 1371I have two Robert Becker scuttles that will accommodate larger brush sizes, but neither of them came with a lid.

Thanked: 270Mr. Becker seems receptive to suggestions and added lids to some of his scuttles because some users want to store soap there and the lid helps keep it soft.
Not all of his scuttles have lids.
