    Default Making a brush

I was looking for brush knots and found a few on the golden nib site. I am sure people here have made their own brush by getting just the knot and either making their own handle or buying one. My question is how do you mount the knot. Do you glue it in? Another question I was looking at getting a larger brush some are around 28mm base but handles are pretty much only 22mm can you enlarge that or do you just have to find one that matches the base of the knot.

You can often enlarge the hole in the handle but obviously it depends on how much "meat" there is to grind away. I have successfully gone from 20mm-22mm on a couple of brushes. Going from 22-28mm might be a bit of a stretch...

I use two part epoxy to fit the knot. Try to use as little epoxy as possible. It is very strong, and I would rather re-glue a knot at some far distant date than to try to clean up an epoxy nightmare when the excess glue squishes up the side of the knot and gets into the bristles, if you use too much.

I found the link if anyone else was interested. There might be different ones out there but this is what I located.

for the larger brushes alot of folks turn them on a lathe. it is fairly easly to do if you have the right equipment. i have done some 26mm and it doesnt take along time to do them, just the finish is what takes a bit.
