Default does a badger brush get softer with use?

i just got a volvix 403 "best" badger brush. Currenty i have been using a burmashave brush. I tested it tonight and the first thing that suprised me is that the brush was a lot scratchier than my burmashave brush OF course, when i got the burmashave it was kind of like lathering my face with a broom. I was expecting the badger brush to be a lot softer on the skin than what i experianced tonight and must admit an initial dissapointment in how it feels.

will the badger brush get softer with use or should i shelf it and keep using the burmashave brush?

I don't know about the long haul maybe 20 years or so but my badger is about 3 years old and I don't think it has really changed since I got it. Maybe some of the old timers here can comment on any changes over many years of use.

A nice way to clean your brushes periodically is to just ship up some shampoo in your mug & rinse thoroughly. You can also apply conditioner... after all, it's just hair. This also fixes the "aroma" of new badger brushes

It may soften up just a bit as it blooms, but you won't see a big difference. Part of your disappointment may just be the result that is is not as soft as anticipated. Give it a daily workout and see if you don't realize how soft it really is. Personally, I like a badger brush with bit of scratch to it.
