So how come no U.S. vendors carry the Semogue?
Most reviews say they're best of breed, if not at least equal to any other. Why aren't we selling them here?

Good question! My 2000 came from a shop in Canada. Reason being, I could not find a U. S. distributor. When you need the boar, well, you just have to get it where you can!

Why, in the age of the internet, does it matter what vendor you buy from? Sure, the shipping might be more, but the US vendor still has to import it with all the shipping, import taxes etc. that entails so it's unlikely to save you any money in the long run.

Thanked: 198that was a question i was wondering myself, and jim i think its more of a matter of wanting to support a vendor closer to home, as well as the shipping costs. plus if its here in the states, it will get to us sooner than if it is coming from canada or the uk.

Very often if you contact your favorite vendor and can convince them and the manufacturer will sell outside of a certain geographical area you may be able to get them here.

I ordered a Semogue Brush from Portugal, and while the total cost of the brush was not much more than it would have been if purchased in the U.S., I had to wait almost a month to get it.
Now, this was no fault of the vendor (vintagescent), but the brush was stuck in customs at JFK airport for 3 weeks. I could get no information about the brush from customs or the USPS.
Lucky for me, my father is a freight forwarder at JFK airport so he had his customs agent look into it for me. My father was able to sign for it and have it released to ship.
Not sure why a shaving brush would be held up in customs, but this is one reason I am hesitant to order from an overseas vendor.
With that said, I have also purchased other items from online vendors and members here, including Jim R, and have had no problems with the shipping.
If you really want a semogue, just go for it and don't worry about the shipping.

I've ordered from vintagescent 4 times and every time I've had my brush within 2 weeks. Shipping is only like $3. Shaving.ie has them as well and I've ordered some other things from them and shipping was lightening fast (4 days from Ireland).
