does anyone actually follow simpson's instructions?
i was looking at that little instruction leaflet that comes with simpson brushes and i was thinking.. does anyone really follow their advice?
simpson says you have to use the brush as if you were painting.. and never in a circular scrubby motion..
well.. i fully just ignore this.. i face lather with a wee scot and i fully enjoy the circular scrubs.. perhaps i'm asking for trouble.. but i just get the best results this way.. building my lather in a painting motion would take forever and really not be as enjoyable as my standard methods. does anyone out there follow simpson's advice or no?

Victor, I have not read Simpson's advice, but equating paint brush strokes to lather building and lather application is just enough for me to disregard any and all input that challenges this Man's experience without sound whys and whereforths from unbiased fellow's.

I've read that. Kent goes even further with their instructions and says that you will break the bristles and ruin the brush. I swirl in circles loading the brush and lathering and have been for years. My Hoffritz badger was bought around '73 and used in that manner daily before I bought another brush and it is still going strong.

thanks jimmy.. your words are always encouraging.. i'm guessing simpson includes their instructions just as a safety measure to prevent any blame placed on them when a brush sheds excessively or a knot falls loose... they probably know fully well how their brushes will be used..

I use a swirly motion also...have been for years and brushes hold up fine.
I suspect it is just a way to curtail any returns on their brushes.

Simpson's Instructions . . .
Gentlemen:
I have applied soap or cream to my Hollywood face in tight circles for years and my brushes continue to function well and without noticeable damage.
In essence, then, swirling the brush in a mug to load it with soap causes damage as well. In which case we're at an impasse, since I know of no other way to load the brush.
Perhaps brush experts are correct when they promote the paint brush motion over swirling, but experience is my argument about such a claim.

Obie

Thanked: 121Circular, scrubbing motions will not damage the brush. Having said that, I use paintbrush strokes on my face since I get a thicker, more protective lather.

I always used circular strokes. One thing I picked up from Lynn's dvd is , on the second pass, relather painting the lather on and then going over it with circular strokes. Works really well and I had never thought of it.

I would place this in the same category legal mumbo jumbo or CYA. I know when I buy a cup of coffee I expect it to be hot, printing the words caution on it will not prevent me from stupidity or accidents.
Good point obie

Instructions are made to be disregarded.
I think they are thinking of liability issues and having to replace brushes more than anything else.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
