    Default Synthetic Bristle Brush

I thought I would pass along the following information...in the spirit of spreading knowledge.

I found a wet shaving brush made by Men-U that is composed of synthetic bristles. As a vegan, I had reservations about purchasing and using a brush made from animals. In all honesty, I cannot say how this brush compares in quality or usage to traditional badger or boar brush (as I have never used one). The synthetic brush is made in Italy and looks like it is made from animal hair. The manufacturer says the synthetic bristles are more sterile than animal hair and hold a lather better with less soap usage (of course they would, right? ) I am new to wet shaving, but have found this to be a useful tool. So if anyone is interested in an animal free brush.....feel free to check this one out. I know that everyone will take this post in the spirit in which it was intended, and NOT as an indictment on other wet shaving products. We all shave with what makes us happy!

Just go with what works for you and don't look back. You seem to have made a good choice.

I've heard good things about some of the new synthetic brushes and have thought about adding one to my stores. Glad to hear another vote up the Men-U.

    Default Synthetic Bristle Brush

    Hello, Holdfast:

I have two synthetic brushes made by Omega of Italy and love them. I also have badger and boar brushes and love them, too.

Hold to your belief, friend, and go with what fits your life.

    Regards,
    Obie

Well I could always let you borrow my badger bristle brush so that you may learn the error of your ways...Fancy supporting the plastics industry over bio-degradable animal products!

In all honesty, I am considering one of those for the travel kit. I'm glad to hear a favourable report on them. Even if it doesn't work as well as I like, it won't matter, it can't be worse than that moulting, horrible, cheap beast that currently lives in my travel kit.

    Hi HoldFast,

I'm no vegan or vegetarian by a long shot. But I use the synthetic brush I bought from the body shop. It works really well compared to my 2 boar hair brushes. A badger one will be mine when my internship ends and I make some money. But the synthetic works really well.

And it is probably a little bit more sanitary than a brush made from animal hair.

    Thnx for sharing!

    Holdfast,

The best synthetic brush I have used is the cheapest - the Vulfix nylon.

Refreshingly not dyed to look like critter hairs, it has an amusing 'Pure Nylon' logo on the handle - I am not sure if this is tongue in cheek or not

I have been doing a long term test of this brush, and it does all that is required of it with hard soaps to creams.

Of course the performance is not up to the smae level as my conventional SilverTip brushes, but if I was restricted to this brush for the rest of my life, I would be quite happy

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

They have come a long way with the synthetics. I remember my father had a nylon probably from the 1950s or 40s and it was a horrible brush. They are a lot closer to natural hair now. If I was going to consider one I would want to see it in person before buying.

This week I got a new synthetic brush from Muehle for a test.
Tomorrow I'll show you a picture and a report. Stay tuned!
