Black badger custom made.
need some help guys. My mother purchased for me for christmas some incredible smelling hand soaps and shaving soaps from Shepherds Soap Co. along with this was a custom hand turned long handled brush. A beautiful brush to behold. The wood is Jatoba which is found in Brazil hand turned by Larry Taylor of "Wood Loved By Larry" in Shelton Washington and I must say it was beautifully done. The knot is the interesting bit. it is approx. 26 to 28 mm with a very short loft of about 40 mm. the handle itself is about 3 and a 1/2 inches long. The odd bit is that the tips are black and the base is white and it is as soft as cats fur. the two silver tipped brushes I have owned and the ones I have felt in the past feel slightly coarse in comparison yet I have been able to produce a very nice lather with this brush with MWF and the Bay Rum soap from this company. Can anyone tell me what I am dealing wth and has anyone else owned and used a brush built by this Larry Taylor guy? Maybe he is a member?

I was looking forward to seeing a custom built badger.... what a letdown!
Seriously, though, that is a nice looking brush. How does she perform?

My guess is it was a 3 band silvertip and he cut it at the second or dark band which is why it's very soft. if it was pure badger it would be prickly. The only other possibility would be he dyed the hair which I doubt.

Are you sure it is badger? It looks like a Kabuki brush, and since you say it is soft as cat fur, this may be the case. All the black Badger knots I have seen are throughout black, and the hair is quite resilient and the tips are prickly, not soft as cat fur.
