i've been meaning to get one of those barbacide jars.. are they pricey?

not really. anywhere from 10-30$ on ebay.

Just FYI for years I used a Weck replaceable blade straight razor to shave the tattoo area on customers. I would rinse the razor when done and place it in barbacide. If it isn't changed often it will form crystals on whatever is soaked in it and it is blue. It might stain bristle. I've never used it for shaving brushes so I can't say for sure. I stopped using straights on customers some years ago so I don't use the stuff anymore.

The other thing I'm a lot more sure of, is that I wouldn't ever bother trying to clean an old brush. For less than $20 you could simply replace the whole knot. It's actually pretty easy, and then you've got a brand new brush for all intents and purposes.

the barbercide will also die some brushes. The barbers board at least in KY says 10 min in barbercide or rubbing alcohol to disinfect. Youll want to use the Rubbing alcohol.. Soaps and shampoos will not kill some stuff(such as hepatitis c)
