Thanked: 10looking for a new scuttle
Hello all. I am in the market for a new scuttle. I have reading up on them and they sound like a very good idea. I would appreciate any advice about reputable sources and suggestions. Thanks.

Thanked: 240Can't go wrong with a dirtybird. I bought mine second hand, the model I own is made for face latherers so it's quite different from a traditional scuttle but I can't speak highly enough of the weight, size, and quality of craftsmanship.

I can't claim to be any kind of a scuttle expert, after all I just got my first scuttle this month. I had been researching them for a while and I settled with a Schwarzweisskeramik . I liked the idea of having a dipping bowl for the brush attacked and I fell in love with the looks of them. I was not disapointed when I received the product. I am actually starting to get angry on days where I don't have enough time to use the scuttle and have to revert to the good old shave mug. I would highly recommend picking one up.
Here's the link to some pick of mine.

Another vote for the Schwartzweisskeramic scuttles. I have the XL version for large brushes, and even a very large brush like Simpson Chubby 3 can be used with ease. Wonderful and totally handmade scuttles.

Looking for a new scuttle
Hello, razorman:
I have, and had, several scuttles: Georgetown, Beck, Oskar and Dirty Bird. I have no experience with Moss, although I have heard good things about it.
Like anything in the world of traditional shaving, personal preference plays a big part in how we stock the shave den. For me, Dirty Bird receives the biggest nod. I have the 1.5 version and love it.
The scuttle retains heat better than all the others I own and have owned, has convenient ridges inside the bowl to trap the lather, and it is quite attractive. My vote, therefore, goes to Dirty Bird.
Regards,
Obie

There are several good ones out there.
My preferred choice is the Schwarzweiss Large.
It performs perfectly!
Classic and elegant looks as well, IMHO.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 19Here's another fan of the 1.5 size Dirty Bird. For energy conservation, we keep the hot water at 110ยบ. I heat up both the scuttle and sink by filling the latter with hot water, with the scuttle totally submerged, and leave it like that while I shower. Once out of the shower and dry, I drain the water from the scuttle and sink, fill the scuttle and sit it on the counter, and fill the sink again, rather than running water while shaving. I wet, not rinse, my face between passes, and use a wet sponge on the counter to wipe lather off the razor. This will keep the lather and brush warm enough for three-four passes, without getting the lather so hot it breaks down. That's easy to do with a scuttle, especially with hotter water. Hope this helps.

as of now my scuttle is simply a mug in a bowl of hot water . i have been looking into getting one for a while now and have a dirty bird 1.5 being made right now and should have it in a week or so after all the reviews i have read this one seemed to be the winner, but they are hand made and she told me it would be around a month till it was delivered

Really it's hard to know because unless you get someone who has owned them all you are getting limited personal opinions. From my experience owning the Georgetown v5 and the Schwartz the Schwartz is the one for me. The most important property is that it keeps the water as warm as you need it. If it's pretty but doesn't keep warm what good is it. I have no experience with the others.
