    Default wilkinson sword brush

A friend of mine gave a Wilkinson sword brush that he never used. This is the first brush that I've ever owned. I've read some pretty bad reviews about the Wilkinson sword shaving soap, however I couldnt find anything about their brush. There was no box with the brush and the Wilkinson website just says its made with 'the finest bristles.' Does anybody have any opinions about this brush?

Don't know anything about it, but I'd say use it until you can get something you like better.

If it says bristle that means boar. You just have to examine it decide for yourself. I would assume it's in the same league as a VDH or Surrey brush but I've never seen one so I'm assuming a lot here.

    Default wilkinson sword brush

I have a WS boar bristle brush and it took a little while to get going but works well now. Tip: shampoo and rinse it a few times before you first use it. Ryan

I bought one of these shaving brushes when I started out and it didn't last long. Although the website says 'pure bristle' I'd put money on it being synthetic - it just doesn't feel like boar to me. However I am from England and bought the brush hear, if you are in the States this could not apply... sorry not to be more help. At the end of the day if you get on well with it that's all that counts. Having said that it's badger for me. H

I have one, and whilst I cannot seem to lather up with it directly on my face, if I work up a lather in a bowl or on the soap puck itself, then this brush works the lather into the whiskers efficiently, and so long as you finish applying the lather by painting it with downward-vertical strokes -- this seems essential with mine -- then the results are very acceptable.

They are fine, not great not terrible. Like all boars they take a while to break in and won't hold as much water/lather as a similarly sized badger. I use mine as a travel brush.

I also have the WS brush and feel it is a decent starter brush it is only about $6 at Walmart here. They are not a very dense brush and need a little more work to get good lather then say a densly stuffed badger but will get you there. Mine has only lost 3-5 hairs and hasn't lost any in over a year, I wish I could say the same about my Kent boar. I still use mine at least once a week when I'm in a rush. IMHO a better brush than the VDH (my VDH fell apart in a couple months) however YMMV.

Yeah, I've been practicing making lather with it and find that I have to add some water during the process and really have to whip the lather in my bowl to get something good. I'll stick with it while I'm learning and move onto some badger later on.
