The b.a.d has come back again...
Just as I thought I was completely content with my favorite shaving brush, I have been pondering getting a new one. Is anyone familiar with this brush?
Thter 4125 Silvertip Classic Shaving Brush, Black Handle, Large
It looks like a dense brush with a good loft but I have a few questions.
My favorite brush is a Vulfix Super Badger with a 22mm knot and 50mm loft. It is very soft on the face and whips up a great lather but I think I agree with some of you that it is a bit floppy being a vulfix. I am looking for a dense yet supple silvertip brush that retains a bit more shape when lathering and applying lather. Does Thater make such a brush or should I be looking elsewhere? Also, with the shape of this particular brush and some others I have seen, are they trimmed down to that "bulb" shape or knotted as such? I have heard that trimming makes the tips feel a bit more scratchy which I personally dislike. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Yes Vulfix is famous for floppy brushes. I have one. I also have a Thater Chubby lll and though it is not like a traditional 2 bander it is not at all floppy and has plenty of backbone. It's quite unlike any other silvertip I have. I would highly recommend it.

I realized after doing a search on here that there was an entire thread dedicated to Thater and this particular model number. I am amazed at all the good things everyone has to say about Thater brushes. Usually it's everyone has their own opinion but it seems pretty much like rave reviews on Thater's.

They are a decent brush
Because of their reputation I chose one for my first brush. However it and the others I have handled seem soft and floppy to me compared to most. I prefer a stiffer longer brush.

Thaeter makes a great brush, regardless of price range. When you consider that they are much more affordable than other brushes in their class, you can't go wrong. Your Thaeter will be as soft as-- if not softer than-- the Vulfix, but with an unbelievable amount more stiff lather making power.
I quit using my Vulfix almost as soon as I got it. After a year using a Pure Badger from C&E, I got a Thaeter and haven't looked back.
