Thanked: 5BLACK BADGER KNOT
I'm in the midst of learning and searching for my first brush and came across a resource that supplies just the knot itself for those that wish to create their very own, unique, custom brush. Noticed a very attractive knot that is referred to as "black badger". I have a few little scraps of canvas and linen Micarta. Also G10, which is a type of Phenolic resin or thermoplastic, or something. It is very popular for knife handles and other industrial applications. So, once i get my knot of animal fur, i'm all ready to start a fun project. I read the tutorial and the only thing needed for assembly is 30 minute epoxy, to set the knot into the handle. Can't wait to get started. Any suggestions for those that have "gone before" are most welcome. cheers

The only recommendation I can give is if you do not have a brush currently you may want to go to Walgreens/CVS/local drug store and see if you can find the VDH Boar hair brush to see how that handle works for you. If you have other brushes to determine how you would like the handle then have fun

Thanked: 5The knot will cost me, i think $13 plus shipping and 30 minute epoxy about $4, so a surprisingly small investment for some real fun, at least for me.

i have a black badger brush, i got the knot from the golden nib. it is alot stiffer than any of my other badger brushes. it gives a good lather and a nice scratchy feel while lathering

Thanked: 5Yes, i wasn't sure if it was against the rules, or not, to name the website. haven't gotten around to reading the rules of the forum yet, but yes, that's where i'm getting mine. thanks. Horse hair seems to be an interesting alternative to badger. I wonder if the furry little guys are becoming threatened over in China? It sounds like that's where most of it comes from.

I like pure grade black badger a lot, as much as higher grades. But, horse hair is my favorite.
