art of shaving pure badger
i went to the art of shaving store by me in paramus, nj the other day since it is the only wet shaving store i know of in the area. i figured they would have a variety of brands of shaving equipment, but they only have their own brand. i'm new into straight shaving and i only have the cheap van der hagen boar brush.
i'm looking into the pure badger brush since its the cheapest and i'm a 19 year old college student haha. has anyone used the AOS pure badger brush or any AOS products? are they worth the price?

Before I knew about srp I bought this very brush along with a straght and several skin care products. The brush is a good brush but to be honest the only thing I would buy from them again would be the cream, it quite good althought you can get comparable ones for the price. If you want a nice badger brush and are on a budget I suggest gloden nib....youmight have to put it together with a little glue but you'll get a lot of brush for little money.
You can also upgrade the boar without spending a fortune by looking at a highr quality boar brush (like omega or semogue) or perhaps horse hair (bestshaving.net has some cheap ones that get some love around these parts). It all depends what your looking for.
In summary the aos brush is quite good, particularly with creams but you can get better bang for your buck by doing some online shopping. Hope that helps.

I have had one of those for quite some time. It has been a pleasure to use and the bloom is really wide and thick. By the way I frequent the Plaza and have been in that store many times. I don't recall how much it was, but I really like the brush. I also really like the AOS Shave Cream and Aluminum.

Thanked: 23I got the travel kit to Sartre with it is only $50 and you get some pre-shave oil, cream and after shave and a nice sized badger brush. That is what I am using and love it.

Thanked: 121The AOS pure was the first brush I bought. I now have a collection of high-end badgers. I pulled out the AOS this morning and it gave me a great lather (Harris Arlington), equalling what my other, much more expensive badgers would produce. It's a great size and IMHO a great brush. Caveat: unlike others here, I don't find significant brush-to-brush differences. I poured a lot of money into my collection because I believed $200-$300 [I]had[I] to make a difference. I find it does not. YM(and a lot of others)MV.

AOS doesn't sell poor products. Their stuff may be on the pricey side but quality should not be an issue. My first brush was a Caswell Massey Best badger and to tell you the truth a typical best Badger is the best bang for the buck type to get in Badger. Usually they are not too expensive and yet have all the good attributes of a silvertip but with a bit more backbone.
